Walks & Routes
Rambling
From the easy to the more challenging, the Forest has footpaths that meander through ancient deciduous woodlands, across streams and along the high ridges, that give the Forest its overwhelming character and beauty. On many of these walks you will see the indigenous wildlife as well as the New Forest ponies and cattle that wander freely. Why not take a picnic and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that the Forest offers.
We can provide you with OS maps and directions for some of our favourite walks. Several friendly pubs such as the Alice Lisle, The Red Shoot and the Royal Oak are within easy reach.
Cycling
Off Road or On Road? the Forest has plenty of both to suit all ages and experiences. If you’re a dedicated mountain biker or a sometime rider the Forest will not disappoint and with the New Forest National Park literally just 5 minutes easy cycle down the lane you will be on your way in no time at all. For those bringing their own bikes there is no need to take them home dirty as we offer a secure lock up and wash down area as part of your package.
Bird Watching
There are a variety of places throughout the New Forest which are perfect for visitors to indulge in a spot of bird watching. Some of the places you can see birds are in the heathlands, nature reserves and woodlands. The diverse landscapes make it the perfect place to see an array of different birds from buzzards to kingfishers.
There are around 100 species of breeding birds in the New Forest, with around 20 regular avian visitors which arrive or pass through the forest in the winter months. Bird watching is another great local attraction with the local Bird reserve literally just across the road.
